As artisan growers we are custodians of the land we work on and we protect it with our sustainable approach to everything. The farm is off grid, using solar to power our chiller in summer and our propagating bench in winter. We grow all our flowers from seed and cuttings. We have no single use plastic on the farm and make mountains of compost which improves our soil. All the green waste from our shop in London returns to the farm to be turned into compost. Our ethical approach to floriculture and floristry is in our DNA, everything we do is beautiful.
Dreamt up whilst Fiona was on self imposed ”gardening leave” from running an Arts centre, Electric Daisy Flower Farm was mapped out on the back of an envelope and became a reality in 2014. Fast forward a few years and her ”seed to bouquet” concept has developed into an sustainable flower farm in Somerset and an ethical flower shop near Hampstead selling her fresh-from-the-farm plants and flowers.
Jane joined the flower farm as a casual seasonal worker, but we soon realised she was a keeper. She has been with us way beyond that first season. Her domain is the propagation poly tunnel, where she nurtures all our plants from seeds and cuttings. Thousands of plant babies go through her careful management each year.
After over thirty years working for Wiltshire County Council, Robert wanted a quieter life. He came to us at the very beginning, when we were relaxed and new to the world of growing and only had a couple of flower beds. Now he maintains our two and a half acres of flower field and he certainly does not have a quiet life.
Flowers without irrigation would be a pretty sad bunch. Sammy worked as a plumber on The Shard in London, so his skills are invaluable when it comes to getting water to flow around our flower beds. He is also responsible for all the structures that keep our stems growing tall and straight. We would be lost without him.
Chief ratter and head of security, Enzo patrols the perimeters of the flower farm for intruders. We’ve tried to co-opt him into admin, but he prefers lying in the shade waiting for unsuspecting visitors to throw his ball.
Whatever is needed on the farm or at HQ, Piers will turn his hand to it, just as long as we don’t ask him to do anything with the flowers. We have come through three cold, hard winters on the flower farm with only a three-sided barn for shelter. Piers has worked tirelessly with Sammy, building our cosy new barns and work rooms.
